studless owners and studs

back sooner than I thought I would be.....
just finished reading Sara's blog about her mare and unwanted attention....
brought back memories from Haven Lee Farms... Sara's problem is one that every animal owner has faced for generations....and every owner has handled for the same time....while I am not (thankfully) faced with the same issues as Sara, the manner in which she resolves them will speak volumes about her stewardship of her charges....good luck there kid....
back in the early 1970's Bob Lee was in a similiar quandry....he came into possession of a registered Missouri Foxtrotter mare....this mare had been sent to a stud farm with high hopes for an ideal drop....as expected, this mare was got to by an unregistered stallion from unclear lines....the mare came to us pregnant so the colt could be delivered with no records kept....June 1, 1970 the mared dropped a blazing white colt....it stormed so bad that night that everyone stayed inside and just waited until daylight to venture out to survey the damage....that colt became one of the best pets you could wish for....his dam was a beautiful buckskin and his sire was pitch black....but he had the most spectacular palamino color imagineable....he turned snow white in the cold months and then back to a suntanned palamino in the warm months....I grew up with that animal and knew him better than most of the people in my life then....he got into a lot of trouble as a young stallion.....jumped fences to fight the stallion from the next hill west of us.....really BAD injury from a wire fence that wouldn't keep him contained....the beautiful fillys and colts he sired.....the comfort and pleasure of a long ride on a gaited horse.....like riding in a rocking chair was the best description of a Foxtrotter's gait.....sorry about that...got lost in a memory....but what ever Sara does I hope it works out for her.....see, I hope to visit her ranchette this summer and see her stock.....just another reason to ......

CELEBRATE LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right after we moved to the present Haven Lee Farm, we had our little stallion penned up with 5 foot tall horse panels.

Neighbors stallion who hasn't been the same since the tornado of 03, got thru the fences and our little guy bent the fencing trying to get to that big guy (22 hands).
Glad I didn't get caught in the middle.
